We could not agree with you more. Shortly we will be posting a link on our homepage, www.pettravel.com, encouraging pet travelers to contact Amtrak asking them to reconsider their pet policy. There is a lot of demand for this service. Let's see what we can do.

I just wrote to amtrak. Need to have small pets, crated, allowed to ride the rails. Even if there is a fee, that's fine. My son and his wife live in virginia and have a very small dog. With the economy the way it is and people leaning toward using public transportation, this ban on pets needs to be changed. Perhaps they could set aside one car and maybe even only a few trains per week could allow this to work. Speaking from experience, there are lots of passengers on those trains that should be banned way before any pets!!! There must be something we can do.

Re. Birds on planes. As you are aware there are no restrictions on birds traveling within the mainland USA.

Most airlines are still allowing them in the cabin provided they fit in a prescribed carrier that will go under the seat which is difficult since most airline seats now only have 8 1/2 iches of underseat clearance.

There are a lot of changes going on in the airline industry right now and we are not sure how this will affect pets.

Hey there, I need help in regards to parrots - and getting them to and fro St. Thomas/Boston. So far we've been allowed to bring them on Continental flights, but if that ends we're in trouble. Any word on bird shipping/cargo/etc? My email nicci@stthomasblog.com. Thanks!
